There are so many reasons why grains are not good for our bodies but because the american nutritional food pyramid says that grains should be our main source of calories most people will believe that to be true. However most people do not realize that its all about money,money,money!!
Wait, what?! Money? What does that have to do with food?
Well A LOT in this day in age. Think about if everyone adopted a paleo diet. Millions of companies would be out of business.
Any business that produces, sells or distributes cereals, breads, pastas, rice, ext.....(now those are just the grains), on top of anything with an artificial substance....thats an entirely new topic on its own.
What would be left?
Basically just the outside edges of the grocery store; meats, veggies, fruits......
Okay, I am getting a bit off topic from grains----
I have been following the Paleo way of life for almost a year now but continue to learn new scientific facts and just other little facts here and there that I did not realize and find VERY interesting....
Two interesting facts that I learned today from The Paleo Solution by Robb Wolff
1. The only difference between brown and white rice is that the outer layer "the bran" is still on the white rice, making it brown---its still white rice inside. The brown layer has the vitamins, and minerals. But overall it still has the same affect on your insulin levels when digested.
2. Lectins, which are proteins found in grains are not broken down in the normal digestion process leaving large intact proteins in the gut. (some of these lectins are also found in dairy) . This can lead to some serious problems--the body can mistake these large undigested proteins as invaders and begin to attack!
The Paleo diet is not just a fad "diet" its a way of life, its the way our ancestors ate. They were very healthy, basically free from disease. Yes, they may have died younger but that is because they did not have proper shelter and they hunted their food (I am sure if you went face to face with wild animals all the time, eventually they might get the best of you!)
Once grains came into play our Neolithic ancestors lost an average of 6inches in height! And disease became prevalent.

Now there are other great books out there on the Paleo diet, I just have not read them all yet, these are the ones I have read and KNOW that they are great!
I just bought the Paleo Solution for my kindle. I'll let you know what I think. =)
