Some action shots from a few of our athletes who competed the other weekend at Team Grit in Hampton.  Competition can really bring out a drive in us that we never knew we had, accomplish things we never thought possible and build bonds with those we share the competition floor with.
Here is a great article to read on why we should all compete in at least one competition.

"The Cupid Shuffle" is going to be an in-house competition CrossFit Unrivaled is hosting on Saturday February 10th as a playful team of two three event competition to help raise money for Jon Hubble's Semper-Fi Foundation.  He has a goal of $6,000 and with just over $1,000 left to go we are going to help to try and get him over the top before his big Boston Marathon Race in April.  This will be a great way to get you in the competition spirit leading up to the start of the CrossFit Open two weeks later.  There will be several divisions to choose from: Female/Female; Male/Male; and Coed along with Rx and Scaled divisions in each.  Sign up at the link below:

The Open is coming….AND WE ARE SO EXCITED!

First things first, if you don’t know about the CrossFit Open, please read HERE.
Don’t let it intimidate you. It doesn’t matter where you place and YOU DEFINITELY WILL NOT BE LAST! There are countless thousands of people every year who don’t finish all 5 workouts and we want to help you avoid that. Also, there is a SCALED division so don’t worry if you are unsure about your ability level. All are welcome and highly encouraged to participate.
We used to just do the Open. Until last year when we changed everything. What was once an intimidating event was no more. Last year we had our first Intramural Open. We follow along and do all the same workouts on the exact same timeline BUT we choose four captains to run teams in our gym. This year’s captains are:
Richard Becker
Dan Ford
Lisa Brandt
Amber Marek
These captains are huge parts of our Unrivaled community, they work hard, have great attitudes and are sure to help us keep it FUN! Because, that is our aim. Fun. No crazy cutthroat attitudes. No nasty trash talking. Just throwing down on some good ol’ fashioned CrossFit style workouts with the rest of Unrivaled while we all compete against each other in an internal, Unrivaled-only competition.
POINTS
Don’t worry, you won’t “drag a team down”. Everyone can contribute points. All you have to do is show up AND there will be surprise opportunities to gain points for your team that don’t require you to do any working out! Here’s the scoring system:
+1 Point – Attendance: every member of a team that completes an Open workout at CrossFit Unrivaled each week earns one point. Maximum one point per athlete per workout. This goes for Rx AND Scaled competitors!
+3 Point – Top 3: every male AND female members who places among the Top 3 at CrossFit Unrivaled for each workout in both scaled and Rx division gets an extra point for their team.
+5 Points – Spirit of the Open: Each week we will pick one team who displays amazing SPIRIT during that week’s workout.
REGISTRATION
The only thing you need to do to participate in the Intramural Open is to register for the CrossFit Games Open. Don’t worry if you are new or unsure about your ability level. THERE IS A SCALED DIVISION for each workout! You can choose to do RX one week and SCALED another week.  Hopefully your goal is to complete all five workouts whether they are Rx or scaled.
Registration for the Open can be done at games.crossfit.com starting January 11th and please make sure to choose CrossFit Unrivaled as your Affiliate and Team.
We are doing Open T-shirts and so everyone has them for the start of the Open on Feb 22nd you'll need to be registered and signed up for a shirt by February 1st.
DRAFT
Coach Drew will be gathering the Team Captains next weekend to have our Draft. All athletes who are registered for the CrossFit Games Open before February 3rd will be automatically put into the Draft pool and will be randomly selected onto a team. We will release all the details of the Draft ASAP so you can find out what team you are on.
Coaches will be split up and placed onto different Intramural teams to keep it fair and even. Captains choose athlete names in random order out of a hat. Team Captains will rotate draws, and then notify the athletes of their team that they have been drafted!
Our Open workout events will take place on Fridays, Friday Night Lights will begin at 5:30 p.m. with athlete/judges briefing at 5pm. We run heats depending on the workouts released, but plan on staying into the evening and bringing some cold beverages to enjoy while people go into their heat and you cheer them on.  There will be a sign-up on the blog every Thursday night after the workouts are released to get on a heat which will be available first come first serve. If you'd also like to help judge our Rx athletes we will ask that you complete the online CrossFit Judges course, scaled athletes will not require a certified judge. Bring friends or family to spectate and contribute to the cheering crowd!

FIVE WEEKS (FEB. 22-MARCH 26)

18.1- Feb. 22-26
18.2- March 1-5
18.3- March 8-12
18.4- March 15-19
18.5- March 22-26
Athletes will be allowed to make up workouts or re-test during open gym hours over the weekend. Also, please find another member of the gym to judge for you ahead of time! Open Gym hours are from 10 am-12:00 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays. If you can't make it in for Friday Night Lights or on weekends we are planning to allow Friday classes to do the workouts in scheduled classes.
Our focus is on FUN. We want participation because it will make you fitter, and it will get you high-fives and you’ll be happy and love life more and glow and stuff.
